OUR INTERNATIONAL
CAMPAIGNS

ECPM constantly conducts various campaigns aimed at achieving the universal abolition of the death penalty. From support for the rights of LGBT+ people and others condemned to death around the world, to advocacy at the UN, our campaigns embody the diversity of our causes and means of action.

THE DEATH PENALTY IS HOMOPHOBIC

Asserting and living one's sexual orientation freely is not a crime and should have no place in a penal code! However, in Africa, in the Middle-East and in Asia, their legal systems still condemned homosexuality.

ECPM calls on all countries to respect everyone's sexual freedom.

Through its campaign, ECPM denounces sexual discrimination and urges those countries that condemn homosexuality to decriminalize it. ECPM also denounces countries with openly homophobic legislation such as Uganda, which has several times called for the reinstatement of the death penalty for the crime of aggravated defilement.

Map of countries condemning to death and criminalizing homosexuality

The death penalty is possible in 11 countries: Afghanistan, Iran, Mauritania, Qatar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Brunei.

While it is almost impossible to count the number of executions on this ground, which is very difficult to prove in practice, it is certain that executions of homosexuals, particularly in Iran, have been concealed under other offences such as drug trafficking.

The Pride March, a key militant moment for the ECPM campaign

Since 2005, ECPM has participated every year in the Paris Pride March, which is held in June in conjunction with the many marches organized across the country to celebrate diversity and claim the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

These rather special postcards will be distributed to you during our militant events. There are 12 of them, symbolically representing the 12 landscapes of the 12 countries in which homosexuality is punishable by the death penalty. On the back of the postcards there are fun games that will allow you to learn more about the legislation in these countries and the consequences for the LGBTI+ community. You will find an overview of these below, and if you would like to pick up the others, please do not hesitate to contact us!
